I have tackled a variety of expressive modes over the years: modern dance, song and making as well as performing with masks and puppets. My body still remembers how a thought expresses itself in movement, where a feeling ads weight in a face.
Often the basic clay form already knows where it wants to go. Sometimes my eyes sees an image inside my head that wants to be expressed. Most of my work is to observe wether what I do to my piece is really leading it to where it wants to go. More and more I realize how much I am not able to see yet because my understanding clings to conventions. Every day I work I vie to look beyond that horizon.
Come and visit me and my partner, potter Stanley Lake, at the "Ruiter Brook Pottery" in Dunkin/Mansonville in Quebec's beautiful Eastern Townships. Take a drive through old farmsteads and picturesque mountain villages.
The studio is open year round by appointment.
The sculptures are exhibited outside during the summer months.
